mashnote is local-first: your notes are stored on your device and remain available offline. When you use sync, your note content is transmitted to and stored on our servers so it can be synchronized across your devices.

Optical character recognition (OCR) is performed on your device, so the contents of your photos and PDFs are read locally and are not uploaded for reading. You can export all of your data at any time, in one click, to Markdown, HTML, or ENEX.

  • Service providers — such as object storage and email providers, who process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards.
  • Legal obligations — when required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of us, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy continuing to apply.

We do not sell your personal information.

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it by law.

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure infrastructure. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
